What does uSurge do?

California does not require a license to provide Handyman and Technical services.  However - this State is very specific about the types of work that can and cannot be done by a Handyman, the types of advertising  & words that may and may not be utilized, and there's even a budget cap.  Additionally - a California Handyman cannot work on plumbing or electrical - or anything that requires a permit or inspection.

Despite the State's restrictions - uSurge is commited to proudly serving this niche and providing high quality & reasonably priced Handyman and Technical services to the greater SF Bay Area.

Check out the uSurge Services page for the ever growing list of the ways that uSurge can help you.

Please note - uSurge is NOT a licensed contractor.

In the case where my assessment of my client's request for services indicates that a licensed contractor or a permit is required to perform the task -- I can, have & will continue to happily provide my client with a personal referral to a trusted contractor that is licensed and skilled in the trade required to complete the job.  I am a proud member of the Premiere business referral network in the SF Bay Area & our trades group is made up of best in class service providers & contractors.

uSurge is an insured & bonded service provider.

Like my fellow tradespersons & entreprenuers - I want to be sure my clients enjoy peace of mind and know that I am providing protection for their home, property & possessions while I am working there.  To that end - I maintain a commercial liability insurance policy and possess an active business service bond that will insure any possible misshap, however unlikely, is completely covered for my clients.

Services

Why?

A lot of folks have asked me - "Why don't you get your contractors license?". It is hard to say - but several reasons do come to mind .. Truth is - despite being successful at being a team member as well as a team leader - I truly enjoy working solo - I always have - and the majority of jobs requiring a contractor's license generally require a team .. Secondarily - I'm trying Not to do just one thing for work these days. I have always been interested in having (or gaining) expertise across a variety of areas.. I like how each project from day to day will most likely be something new for me to do - or something I haven't done in awhile.  I also appreciate how each task I perform has the potential to teach me something that will add to my skillset & allow me to be more effective & faster. And one of my favorite reasons - I love love love when a new project requires a tool or gadget that I don't have yet - and must now go and get  "for work" <hehe>.   But the most important reason is that I really enjoy the people I meet, and taking the time to get to know them & hear their stories and about the path they've walked to get to today - many have become like family to me .. I find myself continually grateful for the opportunity to be welcomed into my client's homes and can strive to be of service & hope the result provides some benefit that allows them to breathe a little easier that day.

I think my favorite author RAH said it best when he said:

"A human being should be able to change a diaper, plan an invasion, butcher a hog, conn a ship, design a building, write a sonnet, balance accounts, build a wall, set a bone, comfort the dying, take orders, give orders, cooperate, act alone, solve equations, analyze a new problem, pitch manure, program a computer, cook a tasty meal, fight efficiently, die gallantly. Specialization is for insects.” -- Robert A. Heinlein

Not that there is anything wrong with specialization - it's just not for me. -- CRR

And others also said:

“Out of clutter, find simplicity.” -- Albert Einstein

“Pleasure in the job puts perfection in the work.” -- Aristotle

“Love all, trust a few, do wrong to none.” -- William Shakespeare

“The heights by great men reached and kept were not attained in sudden flight but, they while their companions slept, they were toiling upwards in the night.” -- Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

Apologies in advance - but I have been known on occasion to be still at the client site and out there working into the wee hours of the night - because for me - it's just not done until it's done right (and BTW - the extra hours are at no additional charge to the client). -- CRR

“If it's worth doing, it's worth overdoing.” -- Ayn Rand
